Poetry - Nearly Jewish
Neil McLeod has been writing poetry for fifty years. Throughout his writing there are many stories that are Jewish. Here is a collection of those Jewish poems, without any apology for his Goyisha perspective or ignorance. This little book of his poetic creations breathes his genuine appreciation of the Jewish experience, whether it is in Israel or in London or in LA. I expect many a Jewish reader to respond by saying, He gets it! He understands us!”

A Kotel Prayer
For Hiri
Find me a crack in the Western Wall
Lodge me tight and firm
Where God may hear my earnest prayer
When He scans that outer berm.
Lord find it ’tween the limestones
My heart is heavy but true,
I have wandered, Oh I’ve wandered,
But I bring this prayer for you.
The Romans with their routing
Tore your temple away,
We were scattered far and wide
But now return to pray.
I can not be any closer
Not ’till You come back again
To this holiest spot in Jewish life,
So here let my prayer remain.
